Crochet Society Box 17 Designer: Heather C Gibbs

Find out more about the fabulous designers behind our Crochet Society boxes! Below we chat to Crochet Society Box 17 designer, Heather C Gibbs @kcaco.uk

What inspired your design for this box?

I’m often inspired by nature and the colours of the yarn just seemed to be crying out for this pattern! It’s always a fun challenge to try something new.

What is your favourite type of project to crochet?

My favourite things to crochet are amigurumi, shawls and blankets; which I see as sort of little, medium and large depending on my mood!

Which of your crochet projects are you proudest of?

The crochet projects I’m definitely proudest of are the crochet-alongs I have done, there is such a wonderful crochet community out there, and things like crochet alongs have a lovely way of bringing people together. It’s also amazing when you see other recreate your design and make it their own!

What’s the biggest challenge you’ve ever faced with your crochet?

The biggest challenge for me is that there is never enough time for me to make all the things that I want to make – that and yarn storage which is a continual challenge!

The theme of this box is bonfire night. Bonfires are a great excuse for toasting marshmallows and brewing up some hot spiced apple juice – what’s your favourite bonfire treat?

My Nana used to make special bonfire toffee when we were younger with black treacle, it always makes me think of Guy Fawkes Night.

What’s the best piece of crochet advice you’ve ever received?

I think definitely as a beginner, and something that I still do now, is to keep checking your stitch, pattern, or gauge as you go along, there’s nothing like frogging your work near to tears to make you wish you had checked!

Where’s your favourite place to crochet?

I have a big armchair which has loads of cushions on where I can make myself a little crochet nest!

Do you have any big crochet plans coming up this year?

There are a quite a few things that I’m working on behind the scenes that I’m excited to be part of – it’s always fun to work on various collaborations. I’ve also got some more patterns of my own which I’m hoping to release before the year’s end.

Where can people find out more about you?

I’m in most places you’d expect on the web; but the main place you can find what I’ve been up to is on my blog www.keepcalmandcrochetonuk.com and I’ve started hanging out a lot more on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/kcaco.uk/. The most comprehensive list of my patterns you can find on Ravelry: https://www.ravelry.com/people/KCACO-UK though I also have a Deramores shop, and sell through LoveCrafts and Etsy too.
