Box 5 designer – Amanda Beechey

We are delighted that @belleandgrace_hmc has designed a pattern for Box 5 of the Crochet Society. Do head over to her Instagram to have a good look at the kind of fun patterns she likes to design. Remember the content of the box are a complete surprise apart from which designers will be included!

When did you learn to crochet, and how did that turn into designing your own patterns?

I started crocheting in 2008. My nan in-law was my teacher, along with YouTube.

What is your favourite thing to make?

Amigurumi! I didn’t discover amigurumi until about 6 years ago. I love the endless possibilities you can create. Pandas tho would have to be my favourite to make.

Which colours do you love working with?

I don’t have a favourite colour to work with. I love to work with neutral colours like beige, creams and light browns as the main colour, from there you can build your piece with contrasting colours to give it it’s personality.

Which other designers do you admire?

I could never choose one designer I admire… There are so many. I do love to make designs from Sweet Oddity Art, Little Aqua Girl and Aukilla.

How many WIPs do you have?

I only have one WIP at a time… Once I start one I have to finish it before another.

Where is your favourite place to crochet?

My favourite place to crochet is anywhere with background noise. I have crocheting in silence, I can’t concentrate!

Who do you like to make crochet gifts for?

I love making gifts for anyone and everyone, young and old. It’s a great feeling seeing people’s reactions when they see it for the first time.

What piece of advice would you give to a new crocheter?

Don’t be put off by projects you think are out of your skill level, not even advanced crocheters always get it right the first time. YouTube is a pot of gold with tutorials to help you along the way. Be bold and unique with your colour choices.

What are your crochet plans for the rest of the year?

I had set myself a personal goal at the start of the year to make 365 amigurumis. One for everyday of the year. I’m a little behind (I need about another 22 days added to the year) but I am going to make sure I achieve it!
