Meet Shelley - Designer of the Festive Fiesta Scarf & Snowball Beanie

Meet Shelley - Designer of the Festive Fiesta Scarf & Snowball Beanie

Shelley Worth (@brambles.and.hart) has been crocheting for 8 years! She is the designer of our Advent Calendar's scarf and beanie patterns! Shelley was inspired to crochet while pregnant with her first son and fell in love with the craft after making him a blanket and matching hat - adorable!

What do you enjoy the most about crochet?

I love crochet for so many reasons but the main one is that it is a great way for me to manage my anxiety, it helps me to switch off. I also enjoy being able to say ‘I made that’ and feel that sense of achievement when I finish a project.

Which stitches or tricks did you sneak into the patterns that makers might love?

For anyone that knows me it’s no secret that I love a bobble stitch so yes I found a way to use them in both the hat and scarf pattern! I think the construction of the hat and the way we create some shaping may be helpful for some makers.

How much yarn is typically needed for both the scarf and the hat?

For the Snowball Beanie, you will need approximately 20g of 5 different colours. I used Blueberry, Lemon Drops, Mint Gelato and Cherry Bomb for the beanie and then Royal Icing for the bobble stitches and the fluffy pom pom.

For the Festive Fiesta Scarf, approximately 60g of 9 different colours will be more than enough to create an eye catching accessory this winter

What do you love the most about Christmas?

My favourite thing about Christmas has to be the smells. It's all so comforting and cosy; cinnamon, orange, mulled wine and gingerbread.

What’s your go-to Christmas movie while you crochet?

As kids my sister and I always used to start watching Christmas movies ridiculously early. Home Alone, The Polar Express, Elf and of course The Grinch, which we can recite word for word! I now love to watch these with my boys whilst I crochet.

Did any Christmas traditions influence your designs?

It has become a little family tradition for us that every year I make matching hats for us all to wear when we visit Christmas markets or go and see Santa. This year it just may have to be matching Snowball Beanies!

Finally, do you have a top-tip for crocheters who want to give your festive project(s) a try?

My top tip for any crocheter wanting to give one of my patterns a try is to definitely follow along with the video tutorial if you feel like you need a bit of extra support. Sometimes crochet terms can make an instruction difficult to visualise but seeing someone doing it can be a great help. Ultimately, don’t take it too seriously and just have fun with it. If you make a mistake you can always frog it and start over, that’s one of the best parts of crochet!

We'd like to thank Shelley for the beautiful pattern designs, which are exclusively available in our 2025 Advent Calendar!

Don't forget to follow her on Instagram!
