Meet Zoe - Designer of the Granny Stripe Stocking

Our festive Stocking was designed by the wonderful Zoe Potrac (@zoepotrac), who was introduced to crafts from a very young age - learning from the older generations of women in her family. However, it wasn’t until her mother-in-law re-introduced her to crochet that the spark really lit, then she couldn’t put it down!

What do you enjoy the most about crochet?

I love the endless possibilities to try something different - you can never run out of techniques or stitch patterns to try. I have a short attention span and a deep need for novelty, so it’s the perfect craft for me.

Did you add any fun details to make this stocking extra special?

It’s always great to try and minimise waste, so I added the bow to use up any remaining yarn- each stripe is a different colour, so it doesn’t matter which shades you use or in what order.

What do you love the most about Christmas?

All of it! I love the sparkle and glitter, I love the bustle, I love trying to choose the perfect gifts to give to my favourite people. I try to give some handmade gifts each year to people I know will appreciate them. My ambition always outstrips the time available though, so there is always a rush getting things finished towards the end!

What’s your go-to Christmas movie, while you crochet?

So many to choose from, but I’m a sucker for Love, Actually. I’ve seen it so many times I know most of the script off by heart, so it makes a great background to crochet, as I can get lost in the stitches, then look up half an hour later and still know what’s happening in the film!

Do you have a top-tip for crocheters who want to give your festive project a try?

This isn’t a complicated project, and you don’t need to be too strict with yourself over colour order or numbers of rows - if you want to add an extra colour or a bit of sparkle, go for it!  Swap the bow for a flower, or add extra length to get those bigger prezzies in! ;)
