Free Gingerbread Crochet Pattern

Tools and materials
Yarn used: Stylecraft Highland Heathers DK 1 ball each in 3750 Grist (MC) & 3745 Wild Salmon (CC)
About the yarn:DK; 272m per 100g ball, 100% acrylic
Tension: 20 sts x 22 rows = 10cm measured over dc
Hooks used: 3.0mm
Other supplies: 2 pairs of black beads, 6mm black cotton thread, tapestry and sewing needles, toy stuffing, 4 buttons 1cm, small amount of dark brown DK yarn, small amount of pink felt, fabric glue
Sizing: 13cm
Hints and tips: Leave a long end for parts which require assembly. If you are using safety eyes with washers, attach them before stuffing head. Alternatively, make French knots with black yarn.
This pattern is worked in joined rnds, join with a sl st to first dc after each rnd. Do not beg rnds with 1 ch unless instructed to do so. Techniques used sl, st, ch, dc, dc2tog, htr, tr, sewing pieces together
Gingerbread Man
Arms (make 2) Rnd 1: With MC and working into a magic ring, 5 dc, join. 5 sts Rnd 2: <2 dc in next st> 5 times, join. 10 sts Rnds 3-5: Dc around, join. Fasten off.
Right Leg Rnd 1: With MC and working into a magic ring, 6 dc, join. 6 sts Rnd 2: <2 dc in next st> 6 times, join. 12 sts Rnds 3-8: Dc around, join. Fasten off.
Left Leg Work as for Right Leg, do not fasten off, continue to Body.
Body Rnd 9: Insert hook in Right Leg, dc around Right Leg, insert hook in Left Leg dc around, join. 24 sts Rnds 10-16: Dc around, join. Edging Rnd 7: <1 htr, 1 tr, 1 htr> in next st, 1 sl st in next st; rep from * around placing last sl st in join from previous rnd. Fasten off. Arm decorations (make 2) With CC, 3 ch, sl st in 3rd ch from hook, <4 ch, sl st in 4th ch from hook> 8 times. Fasten off.
Leg decorations (make 2) With CC, 3 ch, sl st in 3rd ch from hook, <4 ch, sl st in 4th ch from hook> 9 times. Fasten off.
Making up: Use photographs as a guide. Sew Hair to Head. Sew Arm and Leg Decorations to Arms and Legs. Sew beads to Head for eyes. With CC, make a French knot for nose. Separate out two strands from dark brown DK yarn and embroider mouth. Sew buttons onto Body. Cut 1cm circles from pink felt and glue to cheeks.

Rnd 9: 8 dc, 1 dc2tog, 16 dc, 1 dc2tog, 8 dc, join. 34 sts Rnd 10: Dc around, join. Rnd 11: 7 dc, 1 dc2tog, 16 dc, 1 dc2tog, 7 dc, join. 32 sts Rnd 12: Dc around, join. Bow (make 2) With CC, chain 5. Row 1: Starting in 2nd ch from hook, 4 dc. 4 sts Rows 2-9: 1 ch (does not count as a st), 4 dc. Fasten off.
Bobble Rnd 1: With CC and working into a magic ring, 5 dc, join. 5 sts Rnd 2: <2 dc in next st> 5 times, join. 10 sts Rnd 3: 5 dc2tog, join. 5 sts Fasten off.
Collar Rnd 1: With CC and working into a magic ring, <1 htr, 1 tr, 1 htr, 1 sl st> 10 times. Fasten off, do not close magic ring. 10 ruffles
Hem Edging With CC, chain 36. Row 1: Starting in 2nd ch from hook, 1 sl st, *<1 htr, 1 tr, 1 htr> in next st, 1 sl st in next st; rep from * around. Fasten off. 17 ruffles
Making up: Use photographs as a guide. Place Collar over head and tighten magic ring, sew in place. Sew Hem Edging to Body. Fold a bow piece in half and sew edges tog. Rep for 2nd bow piece. Sew both bow pieces tog at seam edge and then sew Bobble over seam. Sew completed Bow to Head.
Sew beads to Head for eyes. With CC, make a French knot for nose. With dark brown DK yarn, embroider front hair. Separate out two strands from dark brown DK yarn and embroider mouth. Sew buttons onto Body. Cut 1cm circles from pink felt and glue them to the cheeks. With CC, make a French knot for nose. Separate out two strands of dark brown DK yarn and embroider mouth.
