Hints and tips for Tapestry crochet: Tapestry crochet is worked in double crochet, the design for the wall hanging is made in rows. Most tapestry crochet patterns will include a chart for you to follow as well as written instructions. When changing to a different colour, pull the new colour through the last 2 loops of the previous st to complete that st. Change colours in this manner whenever indicated in the pattern. When changing to and from a colour, carry the unused colour along the wrong side of the work loosely so that the work does not gather. The colour not in use will be carried along by stitching over it with the colour that is in use. If you see the background yarn through the foreground stitches, try to gently pull the background yarn through before every colour change to tighten all of the stitches. Normally a loose tension won’t make a big difference in the finished pattern. However, in tapestry crochet, you really need to keep those stitches tight. You want to pull the stitches taut, but not so much that the fabric crinkles. You should carry your yarn colours to the next row if that same colour is to be used again. On the wall hanging, the carried yarn is concealed with a simple edging of double crochet around the entire piece.
Tapestry charts:
Read the chart from right to left on the RS rows and left to right on the WS rows (if right handed), each block represents one double crochet stitch.
How to make tassels
Fold two strands of yarn in half so that there’s a U-shaped bend on one side and four ‘tails’ on the other side. Insert your hook around a stitch, catch the bend of your yarn with your hook, pull the folded end of the yarn under the stitch taking care not to pull the yarn all the way through. The ends of the yarn should remain on the opposite side of the stitch from the folded end. Open up the fold of the yarn so that you have a loop. Insert the tail ends of yarn into the loop. Pull the ends of the yarn tightly to cinch the loop down into a knot.

Making up
Attach the dowel as follows: pull up loop on hook, slip the loop onto the dowel. Gently tug the yarn until the dowel is securely attached, but not too tight or it will be difficult to adjust the dowel as you add more loops.
*Insert the hook under the dowel and into the next st, yrh, pull up a loop, slip the loop onto the dowel, gently tighten; rep from * for each st across. Fasten off.
Using a length of yarn long enough to hang as desired, tie one end of yarn securely to one end of dowel then rep for opposite end of dowl and length of yarn. Add 14 yarn B tassels to the bottom of the wall hanging as follows: in first st, miss 2 sts, in next st, *miss 1 st [in next st, miss 2 sts] 4 times, in next st; rep from * once more, miss 1 st, in next st, miss 2 sts, in last st.
