Free Crochet Pattern - Christmas Stockings

Tools and materials
Yarn used: Stylecraft Highland Heathers DK 1 ball each in Wild Salmon 3745 (MC) & Grist 3750 (CC)
About the yarn: DK; 272m per 100g ball; 100% acrylic
Tension: 15 sts x 20 rows = 10x10cm measured over dc
Hooks used: 6mm
Other supplies tapestry needle
Sizing Small stocking: 14cm wide x 25cm high Big stocking: 25cm wide x 43cm high
Hints and tips: Go slowly :) Do not make your first stitch in the same stitch you make your join as this will ensure a smoother change between colours. Carry the unused colour on the WS. Beg 1 ch does not count as a st.

Small Christmas Stocking
Foot
Join each rnd with a sl st to beg dc.
Rnd 1 (RS): With MC and working into a magic ring, 8 dc, join. Turn. 8 sts
Rnd 2: 1 ch, 2 dc in each st around, join. Turn. 16 sts
Rnd 3: 1 ch, <2 dc in next st, 1 dc> 8 times, join. Turn. 24 sts
Rnd 4: 1 ch, dc around, join. Turn.
Rnds 5-6: With CC, as Rnd 4.
Rnds 7-8: With MC, as Rnd 4.
Rnds 9-16: Rep rnds 5-8 twice.
Heel:
Short Row 1 (RS): Continuing with MC, 1 ch, 12 dc, leave rem sts unworked. Turn. 12 sts
Short Rows 2-7: 1 ch, 12 dc. Turn.
Short Row 8 (WS): Fold short rows in half with RS facing inwards, 6 dc through both sides of last row to close Heel. Fasten off.
Leg
Join CC in second last st before short rows.
Rnd 1: 1 ch, 1 dc in next st, evenly space 12 dc over row ends of Heel, 11 dc, join. Turn. 24 sts
Rnd 2: 1 ch, dc around, join. Turn.
Rnds 3-4: With MC, as Rnd 2.
Rnds 5-6: With CC, as Rnd 2.
Rnds 7-20: Rep rnds 3-6 three times, then rnds 3-4 once more. Fasten off MC. Band is worked in the amigurumi style, in a spiral without slip stitching or turning chains. Use a stitch marker or waste yarn to keep track of the first stitch of each round.
Rnd 21: With CC, 2 ch (does not count as a st), htr around.
Rnds 22-25: <1 RtrF, 1 RtrB> 12 times.
Rnd 26: <1 RtrF, 1 RtrB> 11 times, 1 RtrF, 1 RdcB.
Rnd 27: 3 dc, 20 ch to form a hanging loop, 21 dc, sl st in next st to end spiral. Fasten off. Weave in ends. Turn Christmas stocking RS out to ensure heel end is not exposed.
Big Christmas Stocking
Join each rnd with a sl st to beg dc.
Foot
Rnd 1 (RS): With MC and working into a magic ring, 8 dc, join. Turn. 8 sts
Rnd 2: 1 ch, 2 dc in each st around, join. Turn. 16 sts
Rnd 3: 1 ch, <2 dc in next st, 1 dc> 8 times, join. Turn. 24 sts
Rnd 4: 1 ch, <2 dc in next st, 2 dc> 8 times, join. Turn. 32 sts
Rnds 5-6: 1 ch, dc around, join. Turn
Rnds 7-8: With CC, 1 ch, dc around, join. Turn.
Rnds 9-10: With MC, 1 ch, dc around, join. Turn.
Rnds 11-30: Rep rnds 7-10 five times.
Heel:
Short Row 1 (RS): Continuing with MC, 1 ch, 18 dc, leave rem sts unworked. Turn. 18 sts
Short Rows 2-17: 1 ch, dc across. Turn.
Short Row 18 (WS): Fold short rows in half with RS facing inwards, 9 dc through both sides of last row to close Heel. Fasten off.
Leg
Join CC in second last st before short rows.
Rnd 1: 1 ch, 1 dc in next st, evenly space 18 dc over row ends of Heel, 13 dc, join. Turn. 32 sts
Rnd 2: 1 ch, dc around, join. Turn.
Rnds 3-4: With MC, as Rnd 2.
Rnds 5-6: With CC, as Rnd 2.
