Hints and tips - Put a stitch marker into the last stitch of every row to help maintain stitch count. - Try not to make your slip stitches too tight in the foundation border round as it is otherwise difficult to pick up the stitches for the front/back border - Beg 1 ch does not count as a st
Special stitches/abbreviations Cluster (cl) 4 times in same st, draw through all 5 loops on hook Spike treble Yrh, insert hook into st 2 rows below, yrh, pull up a loop to height of current row, twice Standing htr: With slip knot on hook, complete htr in indicated st. Standing dc: With slip knot on hook, complete dc in indicated st. Base loop of sl st (base loop): When viewed from back of sl st, the horizontal line/loop visible under the top loops of the st the sl st was made in. This line/loop is the only part of the sl st visible on the back side of the st.

Main Blanket

With MC and smaller hook, chain 92.

Row 1 (RS): Starting in 3rd ch from hook, tr across. Turn. 90 sts

Row 2 (WS): 1 ch, *4 htr, 1 cl; rep from * to last 5 sts, 5 htr. Turn. 90 sts

Row 3 (RS): 1 ch, tr across. Turn.

Row 4 (WS): 1 ch, 1 htr, 1 cl, 5 htr, *1 cl, 4 htr; rep from * to last 3 sts, 1 cl, 2 htr. Turn.

Rows 5-6: 1 ch, tr across. Turn.

Row 7 (RS): 1 ch, *9 tr, 1 spike tr; rep from * to last 10 sts, 10 tr. Turn.

Rows 8-9: 1 ch, tr across. Turn.

Rows 10-81: Rep rows 2-9 nine times.

Row 82: As Row 2.

Row 83: 1 ch, tr across. Turn.

Row 84: As Row 4.

Row 85: 1 ch, tr across. Do not turn. Fasten off.

Border

Rnd 1 (RS): With larger hook and RS facing, join MC with sl st in first st, sl st across, rotate piece to work across row ends, 2 sl sts in first row end, *1 sl st in next row end, 2 sl sts in next row end; rep from * to foundation ch, rotate piece, sl st across bottom of blanket, rotate piece to work across row ends, sl st across row ends as before, join with sl st to BLO of beg sl st. Do not turn. 436 sts

Rnd 2 (WS): With smaller hook and WS facing, join MC with a standing htr to base loop of last sl st on any side, 1 htr in same base loop as join, *2 ch, rotate piece, 2 htr in first base loop of next side, htr in base loop across to last base loop of side**, 2 htr in last base loop of side; rep from * around ending last rep at **, join with sl st to beg htr. Fasten off. 444 sts

Rnd 3 (RS): With smaller hook and RS facing, join MC with a standing htr in BLO of first sl st on any side, 1 htr in BLO of same st as join, *htr in BLO across to last st of side, 2 htr in BLO of last st of side, 2 ch, rotate piece**, 2 htr in BLO of first sl st of next side; rep from * around ending last rep at **, join with sl st to beg htr. Do not turn. Fasten off. 444 sts

Rnd 4 (RS): With smaller hook and RS facing, join CC with a standing dc through both 2ch-sps in corner before either long edge, <2 ch, 2 dc> in same 2ch-sps as join, *dc in BLO of both front and back borders (rnds 2 & 3) at the same time across to next 2ch-sp**, <2 dc, 2 ch, 2 dc> in both 2ch-sps at the same time; rep from * around ending last rep at **, 1 dc in first 2ch-sp, join with sl st to beg dc. 460 sts, 4 2ch-sps
