Free Crochet Pattern - Knights Helmet for Babies
Yarn used 2 x 50grm balls Rico Baby Classic DK, Shade Anthracite 32 = A, Oddments of Black 99 = B
Also required 2 x black buttons, Crochet Hook size 3.50m
Tension 22 dc x 24 rows measure 10 cm
Measurements. To fit 12/24 months.
Helmet (main part)
Using 3.50mm hook and Yarn C, make 2ch.
Round 1 (RS): 6dc in 2nd ch from hook, sl st to first dc to join into a circle. (6 dc)
Round 2: 1ch (not counted as a st throughout), 2dc in each dc to end, sl st to first dc. (12 dc)
Round 3: 1ch, *1dc in next dc, 2dc in next dc; rep from * to end, sl st to first dc. (18 dc)
Round 4: 1ch, *1dc in each of next 2 dc, 2dc in next dc; rep from * to end, sl st to first dc. (24 dc)
Round 5: 1ch, *1dc in each of next 3 dc, 2dc in next dc; rep from * to end, sl st to first dc. (30 dc)
Round 6 : 1ch,* 1dc in each of next 4dc, 2dc in next dc ; rep from * to end, sl st to first dc. ( 36 dc )
Continue increasing in this way adding an extra dc before each increase until you have reached the row : : 1ch,* 1dc in each of next 14dc, 2dc in next dc ; rep from * to end, sl st to first dc. ( 96 dc)
Next Round : 1dc into each dc all around, at this point do not join but work in continuous rounds for a further 17 rounds.
Now work the Back Neck Plate :
Next Row : 1dc into each of next 40 dc, turn
Next Row : 1ch, 1dc into each dc to end, Turn
Work 10 more rows in dc. Fasten off.
Rejoin yarn A to one side of back neck plate and using 3.50m hook work 1 row of firm dc all around outer edge. Fasten off.
Back Fin
Using 3.50m hook and yarn A make 36 ch.
Work 1dc into 2nd ch from hook, 1dc into each ch to end, turn
Next Row : 1ch, 1dc into each dc to end, turn
Work a further 14 rows in dc. Fasten off.
Fold piece in half lengthways. Join short ends neatly.
Using 3.50m hook and A join yarn to one end of the fold, work a row of dc along the fold working through both thicknesses of fabric. Fasten off and work in ends.
Visor
Using 3.50mm and A make 5ch,
Next Row : 1dc into 2nd ch from hook, 1dc into each ch to end, turn 4dc
Repeat last row once more.
Next Row : 1ch, 2dc in first st, work to last dc, 2dc in last st. 6dc
Work 1 row dc
Repeat last 2 rows to 10 sts.
Now increase as before on every 3rd row to 18 sts.
Continue straight for a further 16 rows
Now decrease as follows :
Next Row : Dc2tog at each end of next and every following 3rd rows to 18 sts.
Next Row : 1ch, 1dc into each dc to end.
Next Row : 1ch, dc2tog, dc to last 2 dc, dc2tog.
Repeat last 2 rows to 4dc.
Work 2 rows in dc. Fasten off.
Button Pieces Make 2 alike
Using 3.50m hook and A Make 8 ch, join into circle with a sl st.
Next Round : 1ch, work 12 dc into circle and join as before.
Next Round : 1ch, work 2dc into each dc all around , join as before.
Next Round : 1ch, * 1dc in next dc, 2dc in next dc. rep to end, join as before and Fasten off
To Make Up
Work in any loose ends. Pin back fin in place on helmet. Sew firmly to helmet on either side of the piece
Fold Visor in half lengthways and using 3.50m hook and A work a row of dc through both thicknesses of the fold and fasten off. Join A to one short end and using 3.50m hook work one row of dc evenly around the entire outer edge of the visor. Join to beg of round with a sl st. Fasten off.
Using Black yarn embroider lines using chain stitch, onto visor. Use photo graph as a guide. Sew button pieces onto either end of visor. Place over helmet and sew buttons onto either side to correspond with button holes.
