Making up
Weave in all ends. Use photograph for guidance throughout. *Thread D onto needle, wind the yarn two or three times round your index finger, remove loops and hold them firm, stitch loops to head for curls; rep from * around head until you have covered the top section.
Sew 4 crocheted strands of Hair at base of curls ensuring all 4 lengths are used on each side. Embroider features with CC1 and E. Sew neck band to either side of neck. Sew flower to centre of neckband. Sew the two pieces of bra together, then sew them to the top part of the body. Sew the waist frill in place below bra.
Lay the blanket on a flat surface. Pin the mermaid in centre of blanket and sew all around when happy with placement, catch the hair down in a few places, leaving the ends free. Sew seaweed and fish to either corner. Making the mermaid is time-consuming - be patient, particularly when sewing on the hair.
Whipstitch
A fast and neat way of quickly sewing squares and seams together Line up your seams with RS together, making sure the stitches on each edge are matching With your tapestry needle and matching yarn (where possible, we have used contrasting yarn for illustration purposes) work from the bottom, right to left, inserting hook through 2 matching stitches Bring your needle back to the right, and repeat Step 2 on the next stitches up, working to the end of the seam and secure.
