When did you learn to crochet, and why do you love it so much?

I taught myself how to crochet back in 2009, which seems like a lifetime ago! I love picking up my hook and yarn and just creating something. It’s very therapeutic and I really do enjoy every step, even sewing pieces together! Learning how to crochet has changed my life in so many ways. I’ve been able to meet people who share the same passion as I do and I’ve been able to share my talents with others.

What is your favorite thing to make? Which project are you most proud of?

I love making amigurumi! It’s what I first taught myself to make and will always hold a special place in my heart. A project I’m most proud of would have to be my amigurumi chemistry set. It’s what really kicked off my career and pushed me to think outside the box. One other project, because it really was a BIG project, was my first book, Whimsical Stitches. I couldn’t be more proud of that book and the work that went into it!

What is your top tip for new crocheters?
Invisible decrease! Some people don’t know this stitch and it’s definitely worth learning! Also- stitch markers! They’re your best friend when crocheting amigurumi!

What would you like to try, but haven’t yet?
Tunisian crochet! I keep seeing so many amazing projects popping up and I would love to be able to make them!

Any big crochet plans for 2020?

I have a few things up my sleeve that I can’t quite talk about just yet! This year I really want to make more patterns and just keep crocheting.

Really excited to see Lauren as a Box 9 designer and hoping her make will be bright colours – maybe daffodils in a clay pot or brightly coloured mini beasts. I love her cactus amigurami too!
