Crochet Society Box 31 – Alison North

Hi! What are you up to today?

Hi! Today is a pattern writing day for me, this is probably the least exciting part of being a crochet designer but unfortunately a necessity hehe! I have found as long as I take regular movement breaks to get up and rest my eyes from the screen for 5/10 minutes it makes the process more enjoyable.

Where’s your favourite type of project to crochet?

My favourite type of project to crochet has to be Amigurumi. I’ve always loved soft toys and all things cute so whenever I start a new design cute is always in the forefront of my mind.

Where’s your favourite place to crochet?

My favourite place to crochet is sitting in my corner of the sofa in my bay window. My windowsill is usually full with all of the yarn I’m using for my current project

Which of your crochet projects are you most proud of?

My proudest crochet achievement has to be writing my book Cutest Crochet Creations. It’s such a great feeling having an actual book hehe! I hope to do another amigurumi book one day.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

A few great amigurumi tips I’ve picked up along the way are, when using chenille yarn to make plush toys, sew the parts together using cotton yarn instead of the chenille as it easily snaps. When attaching limbs, I like to flatten the top of the Arm/leg and crochet through both thicknesses to make sewing to the body much easier.

This box is all about snow days, what is your ideal snow day?

My ideal snow day would be sitting in my cosy corner with a cuppa, hot water bottle and a blanket… crocheted of course! I would crochet while watching the snow fall. Bliss! I also love listening to an audio book while I crochet, I feel like I’m much more productive than if I have the tv on.

Do you have any big crochet plans coming up?

I have quite a few exciting projects coming up but unfortunately nothing I can talk about just yet, hehe!
