Box 31 designer reveal – Hannah Cross

Hi! What are you up to today?

Hi! Today I took my youngest son to meet Father Christmas at a local garden centre – he absolutely loved it!

Where’s your favourite type of project to crochet?

My current thing to crochet is garments. I adore making things that I (and anyone else!) can wear. It’s the best feeling when someone asks where you got your top from and you can reply ‘I made it myself!’

Where’s your favourite place to crochet?

I love to crochet outside in our garden in the summer but in the cooler months wee have a cuddle sofa that I crochet in – it’s really comfy and under a light so I can see!

Which of your crochet projects are you most proud of?

I’ve always been really proud of my Kaleidoscope Mandala Throw. It has a really unusual spiral construction and uses so many stitches and techniques. Plus it has about 20,000 stitches in it so is a bit of a marathon!

What’s the biggest challenge you’ve ever faced with your crochet?

The biggest challenge I’ve ever faced is one that I still face now – enough time to do everything I want to. I feel like I have endless ideas that I would love to make and I just have to be really strict with myself to not start everything at the same time and not finish any of them.

What’s the best piece of crochet advice you’ve ever received?

The best advice I’ve ever been given was to not follow the rules. Crochet is an art form and whilst it’s good to know the general gist of what you ought to do I’ve always found that my best work comes when I bend the rules and try something new.

This box is all about snow days, what is your ideal snow day?

My ideal snow day would start with a trip out with our children and dog – they love the snow. Followed by hot chocolates and snuggling up together with a good film (and some crochet of course!).

Do you have any big crochet plans coming up?

Yes! I’m so excited for HanJan Crochet in 2022! It will be my second year of being a full time designer and blogger and so I have 3 collaborative magazines, 5 Ebooks (eeek!), 4 blog hops, 3 CALs and a video course planned so far – I love keeping busy and trying new things!

Where can people find out more about you?

You can find me as HanJan Crochet in all the usual places but the best place to start is www.hanjancrochet.com
