Crochet Society Box 29 – Kelly Wilson

Hi! What are you up to today?

Hello! Nothing too exciting, I have a busy day of home working and the school run, before finally getting to settle down with some crochet to unwind.

What is your favourite type of project to crochet?

I have to say I love making Christmas decorations the most, such as tree ornaments, garlands, wreaths or wall hangings. It is my favourite time of year and I love to make new items each year with as much sparkle as possible. It’s never too early to start!

Where’s your favourite place to crochet?

Definitely in my garden, provided the weather is ok! I love crocheting outdoors, in my sun lounger, radio on, with a cup of tea or gin and tonic depending on my mood!

Which of your crochet projects are you proudest of?

It would have to be the first big project I ever designed which was a car-themed baby blanket for my son. I had been keen to design him something a bit special but looking after a baby can sometimes drain your momentum. But I managed it, and it came out exactly as I wanted it to. I used to get so many lovely comments when he went out with it, it really boosted my confidence as a designer. It is such a lovely reminder of a special time and I get such a buzz when I see other people using my pattern.

What’s the best piece of crochet advice you’ve ever received?

There is never a wrong way to crochet. This is so true. If it looks ok, you are happy with it, even if you hold your hook differently to everyone else, it doesn’t matter and we shouldn’t let it stress us and affect our enjoyment of this wonderful craft.

Do you have any big crochet plans coming up?

I have some new designs in the pipeline I hope to release soon, this includes some wall hangings and festive bunting. I have also started dying my own yarn and am hoping to incorporate that into some new designs.
