Box 34 Designer – Sophie Minoughan

Hi! What are you up to today?

Hi! For once, I haven’t been doing much crochet today. We’ve just adopted an adorable little kitten, so she has been quite the distraction! I’ve also been doing a small spring clean around the house before finally sitting down for some much-needed yarn time!

What is your favourite type of project to crochet?

I often make items to decorate my home or to add a touch of cosiness. Winter is my favourite season (weird, I know!), and I love snuggling under chunky blankets. The house is starting to groan under the weight of all my makes!

Where’s your favourite place to crochet?

The sofa is by far my favourite crafting spot. I often crochet whilst watching TV with my partner.

Which of your crochet projects are you proudest of?

I love my chunky Zigzag blanket. It was the first project I made (and finished!) for myself. I still use it all the time and am making a second one for my partner. I’m also really proud of my intarsia projects, they’ve been massive amounts of fun to design, and I love how they’ve turned out. It makes me smile to see them hanging in my craft space.

What’s the biggest challenge you’ve ever faced with your crochet?

Losing my crojo – I started crochet as a new hobby to help me relax after busy days studying/working. As my following on Instagram grew, I began to worry that my projects were no longer good enough, and it made me lose my love of crochet. Lately, I’ve been focusing on creating projects just for me, and if other people like them too, then that’s just a bonus!

What’s the best piece of crochet advice you’ve ever received?

Design and make what you like. Stay true to your own style.

How do you find quiet and calm?

My partner and I have busy jobs, so we must make time to relax in our evenings. I like to make time for my hobbies in the evening, either my crochet or sometimes a bit of sewing – I’m working on a beautiful cross stitch pattern at the moment. My hobbies help me unwind from the busy days.

Do you have any big crochet plans coming up?

My head is full of new project ideas, and I hope to publish some free patterns on my blog later in the year. I also want to make some more tutorials for my YouTube channel – it’s been feeling a little neglected recently!
