Crochet Society Box 30 – Jillian Hewitt @SpinaYarnCrochet

Hi! What are you up to today?

Hello! Today, I am spending the day working on my next crochet pattern release. It’s still under wraps at the moment but keep an eye on the Spin a Yarn Crochet blog and IG for new patterns!

What is your favourite type of project to crochet?

I love crocheting amigurumi! There are just so many possibilities for creating adorable characters, each with their own unique personalities.

Where’s your favourite place to crochet?

You’ll usually find me crocheting snuggled up on my couch with a blanket and my dog, Archie.

Which of your crochet projects are you proudest of?

The projects that I am often the proudest of are the ones where I get innovative and try something new, such as incorporating a new technique into the design or designing an amigurumi with a unique perspective. Some good examples of these are my Elephant Amigurumi design, my Monkey Amigurumi design, and my Hammerhead Shark design.

What’s the biggest challenge you’ve ever faced with your crochet?

Almost all of my amigurumi designs are made by crocheting panels in flat rows, rather than in the traditional round method. This presents a fun challenge when I am trying to design certain shapes. For example, it was such a fun challenge to design my Brachiosaurus dinosaur pattern and my Swan and Flamingo patterns to create the beautiful sweeping curves of their necks by only working in flat rows.

What’s the best piece of crochet advice you’ve ever received?

Always check your gauge. ; )

What is your favourite part of the festive period?

I could never pinpoint just one thing; I love the entire atmosphere that the holidays bring. The lights, family gatherings with delicious food, warm cups of cocoa, the joyful music, holiday cookies, and, of course, giving hand-crafted crocheted gifts!

Do you have any big crochet plans coming up?

I’m always designing and releasing new patterns!
