Crochet Society Box 16 Designer: Meghan Ballmer

Find out more about the fabulous designers behind our Crochet Society boxes! Below we chat to Crochet Society Box 16 designer, Meghan Ballmer of @meghanmakesdo

What is your favourite type of project to crochet?

One of my favourite things to crochet are blankets. They take a bit longer, but are worth it in the end.

What inspired your design for this box?

Yellow and grey are two of my favourite colors. I wanted to create something that would add a little pop of colour while also being functional. The yarn is made with some cotton too so it’s the perfect accessory that won’t make you over heat.

Which of your crochet projects are you proudest of?

That’s a tough one. Right now I’d have to say my latest pattern The Malloy Cardi. I used fingering weight yarn with lots of colour changes and tapered sleeves. A lot of heart and soul went into it and I’m in love with the final results.

The theme of this box is the joy of Autumn (or fall for our friends over the pond!). What’s your favourite thing about this time of year?

I love everything about Fall! Some of my favourite things are the changing leaves, cooler weather and picking apples with my family. Plus there are so many delicious foods to eat in the Fall.

Tell us something unexpected about yourself!

I spent a year teaching art in The Bahamas.

What’s the best piece of crochet advice you’ve ever received?

One of the best pieces of advice I’ve received is to make a large gauge swatch. By making the larger swatch you’ll get a more accurate measurement for gauge which is especially important when making garments.

Where’s your favourite place to crochet?

I love crocheting at the park while my kids play. It’s so relaxing and nice to be outside in the fresh air.

Do you have any big crochet plans coming up this year?

I have a long list of crochet garments I am hoping to design this Fall/Winter season. I like to challenge myself with new stitches and construction techniques so I’m looking forward to tackling those challenges.
