Hi! What are you up to today?
Hi, today you find me on a crochet day so I’m working on some commissions that I’m designing, and then later I’m doing normal school day things like picking up my kids, making tea, homework etc, then when they are in bed more crochet!
What is your favourite type of project to crochet?
I find it really hard to choose just one favourite as I love a bit of variety; I love small, medium and bigger depending on my mood. I just love all the endless possibilities that crochet has and changing it up from blankets, to shawls, to baskets or amigurumi makes things wonderfully varied and interesting.
Where’s your favourite place to crochet?
I have a big squishy chair that I like to sit in to crochet; if there’s a good historical TV series on that I can sort of watch (mainly listen too) then I’m in heaven!
I think anywhere I can crochet though is a good place; I pretty much always have some crochet with me – I have been known to sit crocheting at the play park whilst my kids are playing!
Which of your crochet projects are you proudest of?
The crochet projects I’m definitely proudest of are all the crochet-along blankets I have made. They usually take the longest to create design wise so it’s wonderful when it finally all comes together. I love the engagement of the crochet community when doing a CAL, it’s so much more than releasing a ‘normal’ pattern. When the blanket is released, and I get to see others enjoy the pattern, it’s just the most fantastic feeling.
What’s the biggest challenge you’ve ever faced with your crochet?
I think the biggest challenge I face continually with my crochet is trying to understand that I can’t crochet ALL the things, sometimes I have to sleep and eat too, but it’s hard! There’s never enough time for all the things I want to make!
What’s the best piece of crochet advice you’ve ever received?
Best piece of crochet advice I’ve ever received is to do a gauge swatch, it might seem like a waste of time, but it can save you so much time in the long run. And always, always count your stitches; even when you’ve been crocheting for awhile, it can be easy to miss a stitch here or there without realising.
Do you have any big crochet plans coming up?
Yes I’ve been working on a new free crochet along blanket which I’m hoping will be released later on this year, and I’m looking forward to being able to share some other fun commissions I’ve been working on.
