Crochet Society Box 40 – Zoe Potrac

We caught up with Zoe Potrac one of the three fabulous designers from Box 40.

Hi! What are you up to today?
It’s an easy Monday morning for me, so I’m here with my coffee, answering my emails
and doing all the little job that need doing this morning, then I’ll be settling in with a
crochet project this afternoon.

What is your favourite type of project to crochet?
I love to try out a new stitch or technique, so a project that teaches me something new
is always welcome. I have a short-ish attention span, so projects that aren’t too big are
good too!

Where’s your favourite place to crochet?
In my craft room, surrounded by my stash, with a blanket on my lap (the heated kind is
the best!) and watching the outside world through the window. Those are the best days!

Which of your crochet projects are you proudest of?
It will always be the White Horses cushion that was my first ever published design. I
still think it looks great, and it will always remind me of daring to dream that I could do
something different to the average 9 to 5.

What’s the biggest challenge you’ve ever faced with your crochet?
From a crochet business point of view, balancing the creative side with the financial side
will always be a challenge. I’m lucky in the past to have had all sorts of business
training, so my head knows how it works, but my heart just wants to make things!

What’s the best piece of crochet advice you’ve ever received?
Don’t worry about perfection when you’re trying out something new. It’s better to have
a go and learn from what you are making, than never make anything at all because you
keep frogging it back if it isn’t absolutely perfect.

Do you have any big crochet plans coming up?
I’ve got some lovely projects coming up that I’m looking forward to starting; a blanket
to match one of my favourite cushion designs, some Christmassy designs and I’m
hoping this year to squeeze in some gifts for loved ones alongside my design work.
Every year I seem to run out of time!
