Box 35 Designer – Victoria Barrett

Hi! What are you up to today?
I am working on designing a unisex crochet cardigan for adults and children.

What is your favourite type of project to crochet?
I love making garments, even though they take a while to complete. I feel proud to wear something I have made.

Where’s your favourite place to crochet?
My favourite place to crochet is my reclining sofa, although I love that crochet is transportable and usually carry a WIP wherever I go so I can get a few rows in whenever I get a spare moment.

Which of your crochet projects are you proudest of?
This is a really hard question as each project I make, my skills improve and with that I get more and more proud but if I had to choose just one, I would have to say my Tunisian Rib All Around dress. I made a children’s version for my daughter and a Men’s vest version which we all wore on a maternity photoshoot when I was pregnant with my son.

What’s the biggest challenge you’ve ever faced with your crochet?
Skill wise, it would be crochet cables using front post and back post stitches.

What’s the best piece of crochet advice you’ve ever received?
Don’t be afraid to frog and try again. I have found that even though frogging can be painful due to the number of hours and love that has gone into the project, I always learn from doing. That means that it comes out better the next time around.

Do you have any big crochet plans coming up?
I have a lot of patterns I want to bring to life but in addition to that a few secret projects, so keep your eyes peeled.
