Penrose - the pocket bear

Introducing Penrose, the cutest little pocket bear! This is one of the four patterns from Box 1! He's completely adorable and the entire team at the Crochet Society have fallen in love - there'll definitely be lots of little Penrose bears appearing if you're following #crochetsociety over on Instagram. This pattern looks like amigurumi but actually, it is worked in flat panels and then stitched together, perfect for beginners!

The pattern has been designed by Jillian Hewitt of Spin a Yarn Crochet

Penrose the Pocket Bear is the latest in a series of adorable little Pocket Pets from Spin a Yarn Crochet. Pocket Pets are the perfect little companions because their natural habitats are pockets, of course! Any pocket at all will do; big ones, small ones, rectangular, square, pouch pockets, welt pockets, side pockets, you name a pocket, a Pocket Pet will be comfortable there. Their diet consists of all the usual things you’d find in a pocket: lint, buttons, coins, pen caps, and the occasional paper clip.

With Penrose’s pattern, you’ll be able to practice your colour-changing technique, as well as trying out amigurumi by crocheting panels together, rather than in the round. It’s a fun technique for creating stuffed critters with endless possibilities!

If you want to make up Penrose from Box 1, we have step-by-step video instructions for both right and left-hand crocheters for all four patterns in the box - find all videos here. We recommend you follow the pattern in the booklet as you watch the video as this will help you to improve your pattern reading skills.
