Meet Fiona - Designer of Granny's Bobby Baubles

Fiona Field (@cosyrosieuk) is the designer of our baubles pattern! She has been crocheting for a long time and started leading in-person workshops in 2018. She has been publishing patterns since 2019, has had designs featured in numerous publications and on the Crochet Fashion Week catwalk. Amazing!

Who or what was your inspiration to crochet?

My inspiration to crochet was to take time out to craft - it still remains my biggest reason for loving crochet; the fact that I have to stop, and think while I stitch. It slows those thoughts down so I can clear my head.

What do you enjoy the most about crochet?

I really enjoy finding new yarns to work with - yarn shopping really is its own hobby! The wide variety of yarn weights and fibres to consider before starting a project is always such a pleasure for me.

When did you start crocheting?

It's been quite a long time! After a short time, I fell into selling my finished projects and then progressed into hosting workshops to teach others how to crochet. Teaching this craft is still a huge passion of mine and I continue to host workshops alongside selling my own crochet designs.

What’s your favourite colour combination for the baubles?  

My fave is the one with a pink centre followed by two different shades of blue, it reminds me of snowflakes! 

I love that all the colours used in the CAL all work so well together - it really doesn't matter what scraps you have left, you can create a unique bauble in no time and save that waste too!

What would your top-tip be to people trying your pattern for the first time?

Go Bold - don't overthink your colour choices! 

Bring that yarn up! The pattern uses spike stitches, also known as long treble crochets. Make sure you take a moment to bring that hook up to the height of the current round you are working to ensure you create a nice round shape to the finished project.

What do you love the most about Christmas?

The food! And of course the people, but mainly sharing food with the people I love. I also love to stitch up quick crochet projects  that can add an element of handmade beauty to the holidays.

What’s your go-to Christmas movie/song, while you crochet?

My favourite Christmas movie is the Muppets Christmas Carol - I love Elf, but that's saved for watching on Christmas Eve, while snuggled up under a (handmade, crochet) blanket.
