Special stitches Spike tr (spike-tr): Yrh, insert hook into FLO of st 2 rows below as instructed, yrh, pul, drawing loop level with dc on working row, [yrh draw through 2 loops] twice.
Step by step
This pattern is worked in the amigurumi style, in a spiral without slip stitching or turning chains. Use a stitch marker or waste yarn to keep track of the first st of each rnd. Please note that first st changes in each rnd. Change colour on last yrh of rnd.
With A, chain 35.
Rnd 1: Starting in 2nd ch from hook, 33 dc, 3 dc in next ch, rotating as you go, work into the other side of the chain, 33 dc, 3 dc in last ch (first missed ch). 72 sts
Rnd 2: 34 dc in BLO, 3 dc in BLO of next st, 35 dc in BLO, 3 dc in BLO of next st, 1 dc in BLO. 76 sts
Rnd 3: 35 dc in BLO, 2 dc in BLO of next st, 37 dc in BLO, 2 dc in BLO of next st, 2 dc in BLO. Change to B. 78 sts
Rnd 4: <5 dc in BLO, 1 spike-tr> 13 times. 78 sts On the following rnds, you will crochet past the first st of the rnd in order to finish the repeat, the last spike-tr will be made in front of the first st of the rnd.
Rnd 5: 6 dc in BLO, 1 spike-tr, <5 dc in BLO, 1 spike-tr> 12 times. 79 sts
Rnd 6: As Rnd 5. Change to C.
Rnds 7-21: As Rnd 5, changing colour each 3 rnds in the order A, B, C, A. Fasten off.
Finishing Weave in ends. With A, attach zip to top edges of pencil case.
