Special stitches
Camel stitch: Yrh, insert hook into horizontal bar, yrh, pul, yrh, draw through all 3 loops on hook. The horizontal bar is the loop underneath the top two loops (commonly referred to as the front loop and back loop)
Foundation half treble (fhtr): Chain 2, starting in 2nd ch from hook, *yrh, insert hook into chain, yrh, pul, yrh, draw through one loop (chain made), yrh, draw through all 3 loops on hook (htr made); rep from * for number of sts needed
Top Tip!To ensure the bobble is attached securely, leave a long tail and sew it to the hat by running the darning needle through the middle of the bobble each time Using a foundation row creates more stretch and keeps the tension along your top and bottom rows more even.
Hat
Turning chains do not count as a stitch throughout. Row 1: 34 fhtr. Row 2: 2 ch, camel stitch across. Row 3: 1 ch, dc across. Row 4: 2 ch, htr across. Rep rows 2-4 thirteen times. Fasten off leaving a long tail for seaming and gathering the crown. Finishing Seam final row together with foundation row using whip stitch. Turn work sideways and weave yarn tail in and out all the way around the top end of the hat. Pull the yarn to close the hat. Sew the top of hat together to secure. Weave in ends. If needed block to dimensions given in schematic. Make a bobble and secure to the top of the hat.
Scarf
Turning chains do not count as a stitch throughout. Row 1: 157 fhtr Row 2: 2 ch, camel stitch across Row 3: 1 ch, dc across Row 4: 2 ch, htr across Rep rows 2-4 seven times. Finishing Weave in ends. Fringe Wind the remaining yarn into smalls balls of each colour to allow you to create fringe sections that match each row of colour. Cut six stands of yarn 52cm in length for each fringe section. Fold the six strands of yarn in half forming a loop at one end. Take your hook and insert it into the end of a row from the back and draw the loop through the row end you are attaching the fringe section to. Draw the loose ends of the yarn through the loop. Gently pull the fringe ends through to secure the knot. Repeat this step until you have 13 fringes evenly spaced along each end of the scarf. Ensure that the yarn used matches the colour of the row it is attached to. Trim the ends.
