When did you learn to crochet?

Over 3 years ago. I’d been knitting for over 10 years but I wanted a new hobby. I’d tried to crochet several times but even trying to chain felt too awkward so I always gave up. My sister in law told me about Bella Coco YouTube tutorials and after a week of watching them and a lot of perseverance, I made a granny square! Iโ€™ve been crocheting every day ever since then.

And how did that turn into designing your own patterns?

By accident! I was trying some new stitches and techniques and I ended up turning them into three different cushion covers. They were fairly simple but that gave me the confidence to experiment and go on to design other things.

What is your favourite thing to make?

I love making blankets, especially squares that need joining. I love to have a pile of squares and join them using a join-as-you-go method, I find it so satisfying!

Which colours do you love working with?

I love so many colours especially bright happy colours that remind me of summer โ€“ yellow, coral, pink, turquoise, blue (not necessarily together though!!)

Where do you find your inspiration?

All around me! My family, TV, social media and magazines. Plus I live in Cornwall, I’m surrounded by some of the most beautiful beaches and countryside so Iโ€™m never short of inspiration.

Which other designers do you admire?

Thereโ€™s so many that I could list! The first three that come to mind are the very lovely Lisa @lisasattik who is such a talented crocheter and has designed some of the most stunning shawl patterns Iโ€™ve ever seen. Celine @crafty_cc her Instagram feed is just full of pretty rainbows that are always such a delight to see. I also love Mari-Liis Lille @lilleliis_official the toys she designs are absolutely amazing.

How many WIPs do you have?

Just the one! Iโ€™m very strict and donโ€™t like having more than one or two at a time.

Where is your favourite place to crochet?

Snuggled on my sofa, with music playing and a cup of tea (or the very occasional glass of gin!!)

Who do you like to make crochet gifts for?

All of my family, especially my youngest son. Heโ€™s always looking through my magazines and choosing things for me to make him. It gives me so much joy to see the look on his face when I make him something that be has asked for.

What piece of advice would you give to a new crocheter?

Don’t ever be afraid to try new things, whether it be a new pattern, stitches, hooks or yarn. You wonโ€™t know if you will like it unless you try.

What are your crochet plans for 2019?

Iโ€™m working on writing up some of my patterns so that I can share them. I also want to start a blog with some free patterns and tutorials and I also need to look for a bigger house so that I have more room for storing my yarn!!!

Where can people find out more about you?
