Crochet Society Box 30 – Lisa Hooper

Hi! What are you up to today?

Hi, I’m currently designing and making a blanket using lots of different stitches. Today, I’m researching and trying out new stitch patterns I’ve never used before.

What is your favourite type of project to crochet?

I love making blankets using different types of granny squares. I like to experiment with different stitches and textures.

Where’s your favourite place to crochet?

During lockdown, we converted our garage into a craft room. I now have all my yarn and crochet accessories organised and stored in it. (No more tubs under the bed). It also has a comfy sofa and TV. I’m always crocheting in here, it’s my favourite room in the house.

Which of your crochet projects are you proudest of?

I crocheted my daughter a large unicorn blanket for Christmas. Each square has a different pattern and has her name in bobble stitch on it. Her face, when she opened it on Christmas morning made it all worth the weeks of work. She snuggles in it every night.

What’s the biggest challenge you’ve ever faced with your crochet?

Initially when I started to learn to crochet, I found it very difficult to crochet a chain! It took me quite a few weeks to actually make one, but then it all clicked into place.

What’s the best piece of crochet advice you’ve ever received?

To always sew the tail end of my work in at least 3 times in different directions to prevent unravelling. I’ve never had a piece of crochet come undone yet!

This is Christmas. What is your favourite part of the festive period?

Christmas day. After my daughters have opened their presents all of my family goes to my parents house for Christmas dinner. We are a large family so its always noisy and hectic, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. Plus, my mother cooks an amazing dinner!

Do you have any big crochet plans coming up?

Yes! I have lots of new designs that I am working on. The biggest one is a new blanket which is inspired by my seaside holidays. It’s going to be a fun blanket, every square is designed to look like a snapshot of past holiday memories. I’m also making every single square in a different crochet stitch pattern.
