Crochet Society Box 30 – Kylie Moleta

Hi! What are you up to today?

Making granny squares for a large throw blanket.

What inspired your design for this box?

I wanted to design something that would combine a classic look with a bit of fun, so that I would be happy to use it but that the kids would also like it too.

What is your favourite type of project to crochet?

Blankets are my all time favourite.  I dabble in other things but always go back to blankets.

Where’s your favourite place to crochet?

Comfy on the couch at home

Which of your crochet projects are you proudest of?

I couldn’t choose just one.  But the few that come to mind are those that challenged me the most, pushed me outside of my comfort zone, and that I ended up with something to be proud of at the end.

What’s the biggest challenge you’ve ever faced with your crochet?

First Learning to crochet!  I found it hard to learn because I couldn’t seem to get my fingers in the right position.  Once I gave up on holding the hook ‘correctly’ and just doing what is most comfortable to me I was then able to learn the stitches and start making my first blanket.

What’s the best piece of crochet advice you’ve ever received?

I didn’t receive this advice, but it’s the advice I always give to new crocheters or those doubting themselves … Don’t compare yourself to other crocheters, because you don’t know how long they have been crafting or what their experience is.  Instead, compare yourself to your own creations from when you first started. You will then see how far you have come and how much you have learnt and improved along the way.

What is your favourite part of the festive period?

Seeing the excitement of my children on Christmas morning.

Do you have any big crochet plans coming up?

I hope to write up more of my crochet patterns to be released.  As of halfway though 2021, I haven’t written up any new patterns yet but I have lots that I’d love to share!

Where can people find out more about you?
