Crochet Society Box 25 – Jessica Bennet

Hi! What are you up to today?

Playing in the beautiful sunshine with my kids, who are 3 years old and 11 months old. It’s been a long old winter and I was very grateful for the spring weather.

This month we’re getting in a holiday mood – what’s your favourite poolside treat?

Being poolside is not my first choice but give me sunset over a lake with a cold beer and something salty to nibble and I’d be pretty content.

What is your favourite type of project to crochet?

I love making children’s clothes. I love how quick they are to make and how you can experiment with texture and colour.

Where’s your favourite place to crochet?

I almost always crochet on my sofa.

Which of your crochet projects are you proudest of?

I designed a jumper with a really fancy yolk that uses lots of different stitches and is inspired by Icelandic knits. I still can’t believe I got it to work.

What’s the biggest challenge you’ve ever faced with your crochet?

Grading patterns to work out the different sizes. Maths – help!

What’s the best piece of crochet advice you’ve ever received?

Make a swatch that is bigger than 10cm. You get a more accurate sense of the tension.

It’s been a difficult year for many of us – what would you say to any crocheters out there who are having a hard time?

Oh my goodness, it’s been so hard at times, hasn’t it! I’d say be as kind to yourself as you can be.

Do you have any big crochet plans coming up?

Finally getting more of my patterns up onto Love Crafts and maybe even opening an Etsy shop.

Where can people find out more about you?

If you want to see my patterns I am on Love Crafts (look for Rock Salt Plum) or if you are interested in what I’m making day to day the you can find me on Instagram www.instagram.com/rock_salt_plum
