Tunisian Crochet Tutorial

Have you tried Tunisian Crochet?

To enter and win this amazing set of Bamboo Tunisian Crochet hooks simply complete the entry form at the end of this post!

I have created two video tutorials which show you how to get started with Tunisian crochet.

tunisian crochet tutorial

Tunisian crochet uses an elongated crochet hook with a stopper on the end. It looks like a cross between a regular crochet hook and a knitting needle. The hook end is used to create the stitches, like in crochet, but the look of Tunisian crochet is more like knitting. Many people consider Tunisian crochet as a cross between knitting and crochet, as it certainly has characteristics of both crafts.

Each row of Tunisian crochet creates front and back vertical bars. These are manipulated to create each stitch.

In each row of Tunisian crochet there are two parts: the forward pass and the return. During the forward pass you work from right to left creating loops and keeping them on your hook. During the return you work from left to right working off these loops until one remains.

Part 1

Tunisian crochet basics, how to create a simple Tunisian crochet stitch.

Part 2

How to change colours in Tunisian crochet and how to finish off your work

I am so excited to receive my first box. I am so glad I made the decision to sign up so I can learn more about crochet and challenge myself. Here in Australia we don’t have a wide range of different yarns either which is why I am excited for these boxes. Sarah-Jayne you are an inspiration and do a wonderful job.

I love Tunisian Crochet. I only started to learn this crochet after seeing a blanket in one of the free pattern books with Crochet Now. I also have learned how to do the Crochet Knit Stitch too, and I think this will be my favourite stitch, as I would love to make an Aran or Chunky Blanket for the Autumn and Winter months. Thank you for the chance to be put in the draw for the Tunisian Hooks 🙂

I was reading the contest rules which state open to UK entrants aged 16 & older but I did not read anywhere if it’s open to US residents or not. Could you please clarify this? Thanks for the giveaway!

I’ve been doing Tunisian Crochet for over 50 years and it’s great that tools are now available again as they totally disappeared from the market. Not only have they appeared again, but there have been improvements too.

I see everyone make a Tunisian shawl and I would love to learn from the best how to make it. My first every granny square was made following your tutorials and gained me so many compliments and followers on Instagram. I hope the same with the Tunisian shawl.

Tunisian crochet looks amazing and I can’t wait to try it. After years of trying to crochet I came across Bella Coco YouTube videos and I was amazed to discover with the right guidance I could actually crochet. I have made several pieces now and I love it. I will certainly be getting the subscription. I can’t wait to see what surprises are in the box 💗
