2020 Advent CAL-endar: Day 20

Welcome to the twentieth instalment of your beautiful advent blanket, designed by Rosina Plane.

All the posts about the CAL and each instalment is now together in its own section of the website here.

You need to register with this website to view the pattern – but registration is free. When you log in, the pattern will appear below.

Day 20 โ€“ Back Border – First Round

We are going to be working a simple envelope (double) border.
This adds a nice weight to the edge of the blanket, and has the added benefit of hiding loose ends, so we donโ€™t need to weave them in.

Starting with the Wrong Side facing you, and working all sts into the back line of the sl sts made on the foundation round, with 3.5mm hook (or one size smaller than used for main blanket), join Mint To Be with a standing tr in last sl st of any edge, 1 tr in same sl st, *2 ch (corner made), rotate to work across next edge, 2 tr in next sl st, tr in each sl st to last sl st before next corner, 2 tr in last sl st; rep from * twice more, 2 ch, rotate, 2 tr in next sl st, tr in each rem sl st, join to standing tr with a sl st. Fasten off.

Have to say Iโ€™m sorry but was disappointed in the advent calendar especially when the wrong wool was in one of the days and I had to search for it, it took all the joy out of opening it each day, ended up just emptying it into a carrier bag, was a little disappointed that it was only wool and a few stitch markers too, I was expecting something a little more substantial on the 24th.

I commented in a similar way but my comment wasn’t published. Extremely disappointed with the advent calendar.

        Hi Jakkie,

So sorry to hear you are disappointed with the calendar. If you could email any feedback to crochetsociety@practicalpublishing.co.uk that would be greatly appreciated. It is our very first attempt at such a huge package so any feedback will be valuable for us moving forward. ๐Ÿ™‚ x

I’ve loved the calender, yes it has a few faults but for the 1st year I’m not surprised.
I had mine bought as a thank you gift for running a crochet group on zoom during the pandemic. We loved the pattern so much, it’s a great way to learn new stitches and you could use left over yarn to do this.
I’ve loved opening it each day and seeing where my friends were at.
The faults are easy to fix for next year. The wrong yarn in 12 and 21, can see why there was a mix up. The yarn does split quite a bit. The stitch markers had fallen to the bottom of my box, so only found them when I was throwing the box away. Would have loved a video tutorial for each day too, with someone working the same pattern and just something a little extra on the 24th would have been nice.
I will be saving up to buy next year’s and will recommend it to my group members, hopefully more of us can do it together next year.
Thank you for coming up with a great idea x

            Hi Kathryn,

Thank you so much for your feedback, we really appreciate this. ๐Ÿ™‚

We have posted a survey for the advent calendar on our website so hopefully this will help inform future projects. x

Plus points _ nice to learn new stitches.
Bad points _ wool out of sequence with online pattern _ also 2 missing days of wool (which I found when searching for right colour) I received these yesterday after emailing my complaint _ but only the wool, not even a compliments slip or note. Because of the erratic packing, still waiting to find out if it’s the correct colours.

Totally disappointed with the advent calendar, i thought it would be a mixture if small projects, gifts and craft related items. Instead it was wool every day, there was no excitement especially once the colours repeated and some were in the wrong days. Blanket (which is too small to be of any use other than to a toddler) pattern is written poorly and has even worse pictures that do not help with stitch placement.

I am enjoying this Cal I have learned new stitches , as this is the first advent calendar crochet society have done I think they have done a great job , in this trying year , I will certainly buy one next year if they do one , I bought one for my sister in law and we have been doing it together we open the door each day via WhatsApp and then posting our progress so it seems like we are together. Well done Sarah and the team happy Christmas ๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿฅฐ

Disappointed as yarn was poor quality and splitting. New stitches good but size of blanket made it pointless. Colours looked like an odd ball collection from bottom of a bag. When get to border needed to change sizes of hooks which I donโ€™t have and itโ€™s too late to order now to complete before Christmas. In end I knew what colour was coming next due to the repeats and took all the joy out of opening each day. Iโ€™m sorry I wasted ยฃ55 on this when I think of what I could have spent that money on. Definitely wonโ€™t be getting next year. Very poor.

I feel like I could have saved my money here and used my stash to make this. The CAL was open to everyone anyway so not sure what the point of this calendar was. The yarn is quite poor, splitting quite a lot. Don’t think this would have been great for a beginner either, Yarn in wrong doors too so had to open it all up to find it. Very disappointed and won’t be buying again

Donโ€™t like complaining but the blanket size is not big enough and would be nicer for a different project each day something Christmasโ€™s ornaments perhaps and a nice gift at the end would of made it more exciting didnโ€™t have a problem with stitches was lovely to learn new things taught me a lot will look forward to next year
